In our journey of awakening, we often encounter teachings that cut through complexity and touch the deepest truth: we are not the body. We are eternal consciousness, temporarily housed in this physical form. A beautiful clip from an interview with Darius J. Wright on Roseanne Barr’s show offers one of the clearest, most accessible explanations of out-of-body experiences (OBEs) I’ve come across—perfect for newcomers and a profound reminder for those already on the path.
Darius simplifies something that can seem mysterious or intimidating. He describes an OBE as a controlled separation of the soul from the body, achieved by consciously lowering the heart’s electromagnetic field. This mirrors what happens at death, when the field stops entirely—but in an OBE, we choose to exit and return. The soul, he explains, is far more “physical” and real than the body. While the brain limits us to about 1% of the light spectrum, the soul perceives everything in full vibrancy. The body, in this view, acts as a kind of prison—a prism that restricts our natural abilities, like flight or unrestricted perception.
When we step out of the body, we return “home.” This is the other side: a realm of pure light where loved ones who have passed await, where we access universal records, and where past, present, and future unfold simultaneously. It’s the place of true creation, free from the density and fear that dominate physical life.
A central theme in Darius’s message is fear—specifically, the fear of death. This fear keeps the soul confined and controllable. Once we release it, something extraordinary happens: we become unstoppable. Fearlessness allows the soul to navigate realities freely, gather wisdom, and even influence the world from higher dimensions. Darius shares his own early experiences with uncontrolled OBEs and sleep paralysis, filled with terror until he surrendered fully. In that surrender, fear dissolved, and he gained access to profound encounters with departed relatives and deeper truths.
He emphasizes that OBEs are essentially controlled near-death experiences (NDEs). The destinations and insights are the same, but preparation removes the shock. By learning to slow the heart and separate consciously, we reclaim power over our consciousness—no longer victims of fear, but explorers of eternity.
This teaching resonates deeply with the essence of awakening: recognizing that death is not an end, but a return. The physical world is temporary; our true nature is boundless, eternal light. As Darius says, understanding this eliminates fear and reveals that consciousness itself is the force shaping the universe.
If you’ve ever felt confined by the limitations of the body or wondered about life beyond it, this clip is a gentle yet powerful invitation to explore. It’s a reminder that freedom is not something we must wait for—it’s available now, through presence, surrender, and courage.
